Spotlight on the IPMA Project Excellence Award Large and Mega Awards finalists

This year marks the 24th anniversary of the IPMA Project Excellence Awards, with the mission to honour outstanding achievements in project management across the globe.

Large and mega-sized Projects involve budgets exceeding 200 million euros, extended timelines, and exceptional complexity. However, the projects themselves are not the only complex ones — the application and assessment process is equally rigorous.

Each applicant submits a comprehensive Application Report, which is reviewed by a dedicated team of international assessors. This is followed by an intensive three-day Site Visit, during which assessors gather on-the-ground evidence of excellence. Through interviews with key stakeholders — including clients, project team members, and impacted parties — assessors gain valuable insight into the project’s performance and impact.

The final decision is made by the IPMA Awards Judges pool. The evaluation follows the IPMA Project Excellence Baseline, a globally recognised standard celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

We congratulate all the finalists for reaching this stage and for exemplifying what it means to lead with excellence in complex project environments.

The finalists of the IPMA Project Excellence Awards, Larg&Mega- sized Projects are alphabetically by country:

• CNOOC Ningbo Daxie Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (company headquarters – China), with a project named Daxie Petrochemical Refining-Petrochemical Integration Project, and the project location is in China
• Alstom (company headquarters – France), with a project named Wanda–Zhonghe–Shulin line Phase I and Phase II, and a project location in Taiwan
• Petróleos Mexicanos (company headquarters – Mexico), with a project named Olmeca Refinery, and the project location in Mexico

The final rankings—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—will be revealed live during the spectacular IPMA Global Awards Gala Ceremony on September 19, 2025, in Berlin, Germany.

This highly anticipated Gala will be the grand finale of the 34th IPMA World Congress and a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the oldest professional Project Management Association in the world, IPMA.
