IPMA Global Research Awards Gala 2024 Celebrates Excellence in Project Management Research

The IPMA Global Research Awards Gala was held on April 20th at the 12th IPMA Research Conference in Maryland, USA. The master of the ceremony was Hari Prasad Josyula, IPMA-USA Vice President and member of the Conference Organizational team.

Amidst an audience of 100 attendees, the prestigious Research Awards were announced, accompanied by the Gala live-stream broadcast. Vladimir Obradovic, IPMA VP of Finance and Operations, opened the Gala dinner by highlighting the pivotal role of the IPMA Research Awards within the Global Awards Family.

The evening’s highlights included the presentation of trophies to IPMA Research Awards 2024 winners by Martina Heuman, Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Project Management and Project Leadership in Society, and Mladen Vukomanovic, IPMA President.

The winners are:

  • IPMA Global Research Achievement Award: Professor Graham Winch, is recognized for his lifetime contributions to research, academia, and business management.
  • IPMA Global Research Award Winner: Natalya Sergeeva & Johan Ninan from University College London for “Narratives in Megaprojects”
  • Young Researcher Award Winner: Costanza Mariani from Politecnico di Milano for “Empirical Applications of Artificial Intelligence to Project Management”
  • Graduate Research Award Winner: Zhixue Liu from Shandong University for “Cooperation in an Uncertain Environment: Impact of Stakeholders’ Concerted Action on Collaborative Innovation Projects Risk Management”
  • Graduate Research Award Outstanding Contribution: Zhujun Wang from Xi’an Jiaotong University for “Blockchain and Project Management: Theoretical Exploration of Adoption Barriers and Application Prototype Design.”

Last but not least, the IPMA and IPMA Awards team were delighted to personally congratulate Professor Young Hoon Kwak from George Washington University, USA, the winner of the IPMA Research Award 2023. Unfortunately, Professor Kwak was unable to receive this recognition in China last year, making this moment all the more special.

The IPMA Vice President of Research and Publication and the patron of the Research Conference use this opportunity to congratulate all Winners but also to express gratitude to all IPMA volunteers who contributed to the field of research in the previous years and introduce the Prestigious Global Research Fellowship winners.

Complementing the IPMA Global Awards Gala, the IPMA Research Panel on April 22nd convened a hybrid discussion where award winners shared invaluable insights and findings on project management, engaging with the audience through a vibrant exchange of ideas and perspectives. 

This event further showcased the dedication and innovation driving the IPMA community forward in advancing project management practices and research worldwide.

Congratulations to all winners of the IPMA Global Research Awards 2024, and appreciation to IPMA USA, the hosts of the 12th IPMA Research Conference.
